Individual Resident Producer Requirements

To qualify for a resident Indiana state insurance producer license, the applicant must satisfy the following requirements:
  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Maintain a principal place of residence or a principal place of business in Indiana
  • Not have committed any act that is a ground for denial, suspension or revocation of a license
  • Complete an approved prelicensing course of study (see Prelicense requirements below)

Frequency: One-time training must be complete prior to selling annuity products.

Hours: 8
Frequency: One-time training must be complete prior to selling LTC products. The 8 hours may be counted as part of the required CE credits for the compliance period in which they were completed.

Frequency: Ongoing training must be completed every 2-year license period, following the initial training requirement.

Long-Term Care Partnership Initial Training Requirement

Frequency: One-time training must be completed prior to selling LTC insurance products. The 7-hour ILTCP must be completed in a classroom.

PLE Course Delivery

  • Prelicense education providers are required to record the actual time the applicant spends in the course and not allow access to the certificate of completion until the applicant's time equals the number of required hours for the LOA.
  • Applicants must pass quizzes at the end of major lessons with a 70% or higher to proceed on to the next lesson.

PLE Course Exam

  • Passing Score: Per IN DOI rules, applicants must pass the PLE course final exam with a 70% or higher to receive a certificate of completion.
  • Exam Proctor Requirements: PreLicense.com final exams do not require a proctor.

Reporting and Indiana PreLicense Exam Prep Certificates of Completion

Certificate of Completion

PreLicense.com provides online, printable certificates of completion in Indiana. An applicant must meet Indiana’s PLE requirements before a certificate of completion is issued. Certificates are valid for 6 months. Candidates must pass their exam and apply for their license during this 6 month period.

IMPORTANT: You must bring your certificate of completion with you when you arrive at the test center to take the exam.

State Reporting Requirements

Prelicense.com reports PLE course completions electronically to Sircon daily. The Indiana Department of Insurance charges a $4.00 per course state roster fee for course completion reports. This state-mandated fee is included in the course price.

License Application Process

  2. IDOI Testing Website: Click on the following for the IDOI testing website https://secure.vitapowered.com/idoi/login

  3. Register for Account: Create an account by clicking on the "Applicant Registration" link. Complete the registration form and click the continue button. Note: You must know your login ID and password when you arrive at the test center to take the exam.

  4. Login: Login to https://secure.vitapowered.com/idoi/login using the login ID and password created during the registration process.

  5. Select Assessment: Select the licensing exam that matches your course certificate or waiver. Note: You must have your course certificate or waiver with you when you arrive at the test center to take the exam.

  6. Pay For Assessment: Enter your credit/debit card information. You may use Visa, MasterCard, or American Express to pay for your assessment.

  7. Schedule For Assessment: Select a date/time for the testing center of your choice. The testing centers closest to the address you entered during registration will be displayed. You may opt to see testing centers near a different zip code by entering that zip code at the bottom of the screen or you can see additional dates/times by clicking on the “More Times” link. If there are no available seats at the center of your choice, you may submit a Seat Request email.

    Once your appointment has been scheduled, you will receive an email notification with the details of your appointment and instructions of what to bring.

  8. Take Assessment: Please arrive at the test center 10 minutes prior to your appointment. You will need the following information:
    • Login ID and Password
    • Prelicense Course Completion Certificate
    • Federal or State ID

Transfer Indiana PreLicense Application Process

Transfer License Requirement

New residents who still hold an active license in their previous home state will not be required to complete prelicensing education or take the license examination as long as:
  • Application is made within 90 days of establishing residence in Indiana
  • Currently licensed in another state or canceled the previous license within 90 days prior to submitting the application
  • The license being applied for is the same line of authority as in the previous state
