Individual Resident Producer Requirements

To qualify for a resident Nebraska state insurance producer license, the applicant must satisfy the following requirements:

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Be competent, trustworthy, financially responsible and have a good personal and business reputation
  • Maintain a principal place of residence in Nebraska
  • Complete an approved prelicensing course of study (see Prelicense requirements below)
  • Pass a written examination and file a license application

Applicants must complete prelicense education (PLE) for each major line of authority (LOA), as follows:

PLE Course Delivery

Per Nebraska PLE requirements, applicants are required to complete all of the lessons in the Prelicense education course sequentially before they can be issued a certificate of completion.

PLE Course Exam

  • Passing Score: Applicants must pass the PLE final exam with a 70% or higher to receive a certificate of completion.
  • Exam Proctor Requirements:  PreLicense.com final exams must be monitored by a disinterested third party. Proctors must not serve for examinations of family members, relatives, or dependents; employers or supervisors; employees or subordinates; partners, joint ventures, co-owners, or business associates; or for anyone in whom the proctor or instructor has an economic or other interest in assuring the successful outcome of the examination.

Certificate of Completion

PreLicense.com provides online, printable certificates of completion in Nebraska.  An applicant must meet Nebraska’s PLE requirements before a certificate of completion is issued. Applicants will be required to submit their certificate of completion to the Nebraska Department of Insurance with the license application.

State Reporting Requirements 

Prelicense.com reports PLE course completions to SBS daily.  The Nebraska Department of Insurance charges a $1.00 per hour state roster fee for course completion reports.  This state-mandated fee is included in the course price.

License Application Process

Important:  Passing an exam does not guarantee that you will be issued a license. You must submit all application materials and fees to the Department within one year of completing your prelicensure course and passing your exam.  Issuance of a license depends on review and approval of all license application materials.

1.      Prelicense Education : Applicants are required to pass an approved prelicensing course in order to obtain a license.

Exam Format:

  • Bring signed identification
- Government-issued (e.g., driver’s license, state-issued or  military id card)

- Contain both a current photo and your signature
  • Each major line exam is given in a multiple-choice format.
  • The passing score required on each exam is 70%.
  • Prometric notifies the Department of Insurance your exam results within 2 business days.

 

3. Apply for your Nebraska license: You must apply and be issued a Nebraska insurance license in order to sell, solicit, or negotiate insurance in the state of Nebraska. If an exam was required, allow 2-3 days for Prometric to provide the exam results and the Prelicensing Provider is allowed 10 days to submit your PLE course credit to the Nebraska Insurance Department electronically, prior to applying.

New Resident Producer Requirements

New residents who still hold an active license in their previous home state will not be required to complete prelicense education or take the license examination as long as:

  • The application is received within 90 days of their former home state license being canceled
  • The license being applied for is the same line of authority as in the previous state.
