Alaska PreLicensing Requirements

Individual Resident Producer Requirements

To qualify for a resident Alaska insurance producer license, the applicant must satisfy the following requirements:

  •   Be at least 18 years of age
  •  Be a resident of, and actually residing in, the state of Alaska
  • Be trustworthy and competent
  • Pass the license examination
  • Submit fingerprints
  •  File a license application and remit filing fees

Course Delivery

Applicants must read each lesson before they can proceed to the next lesson.

Exam Requirements

·         Passing Score: PreLicense.com suggests students pass PreLicense.com's Practice exam with a score of 75% or higher.

·         Exam Proctor Requirements: The Practice exam does not require a proctor.

Certificate of Completion

The Alaska Division of Insurance does not require a PLE certificate of completion.

State Reporting Requirements

The Alaska Division of Insurance does not require PLE course completions to be reported.

State Licensing Exam

Methods of Registration

·         Register Online:  To register online for an insurance license exam in Alaska, go to www.pearsonvue.com/ak/insurance (must register 24 hours in advance)

·         Register by Phone:  To register for an insurance license exam in Alaska by phone, call (800) 274-5993. (must register 24 hours in advance)

·         Register by Fax:  Fax exam reservation form to 888-204-6291 at least 2 calendar days before desired examination date.

·         On-site registration is not allowed.

Materials Needed to Present at Exam Site

Candidates must present two (2) forms of current signature identification. The primary identification must be government-issued and photo-bearing with a signature and the secondary identification must contain a valid signature. Identification must be in English.

·         Exam fees:  A list of exams and fees is located on the back cover of the Alaska Insurance Candidate Handbook  Currently, the examination fee is $104.00 (includes $15.00 digital fingerprint fee) for the first examination attempt and $89.00 for each subsequent attempt.

State Exam Passing Score

Candidates must pass the state licensing exam with a 70% or higher to file a license application.

Exam Retakes

Candidates who fail only one part of an examination need to retake only the part they failed.

 

License Application Process:

 

1. Pass State Licensing Exam:  Make an online reservation at www.pearsonvue.com/ak/insurance or by calling (800) 274-5993.

 Materials Needed to Present at Exam Site

  •  Candidates must present two (2) forms of current signature identification. The primary identification must be government-issued and photo-bearing with a signature and the secondary identification must contain a valid signature. Identification must be in English.
  •   One fingerprint card with a $54.25 fee included with the application fee
 
  •   The passing score required on each exam is 75.
  • When you complete the exam, you will receive a score report marked "pass or fail".
  • Examination scores are only valid for 1 year from the date of the examination. 

 

2.       Fingerprint Requirements

Alaska requires that all resident candidates be fingerprinted prior to submitting a license application. After scheduling an appointment with Pearson Vue for the license examination candidates must contact Morpho Trust USA at 1-866-761-8069 to schedule a fingerprint appointment. Fingerprint reservations can also be made online at https://pearsonwest.ibtfingerprint.com/.

New Resident Producer Requirements

Candidates moving to Alaska wishing to qualify for an Alaska license without taking an examination must meet the following requirements:

·         Held a resident license in another state and within 90 days of termination of previous home state license, apply for a license for the same line of authority

·         A letter of clearance may be required if Alaska is unable to verify your change in resident state through the NAIC State Producer Licensing Database

Nonresident Producer Requirements

Non-residents may apply by reciprocity and are exempt from the examination requirement, as long as they are currently licensed as a resident and in good standing in their home state.

Fingerprint Requirements

Fingerprints are not required for non-resident applicants in Alaska.

State-Required Product Training

Your state has special training requirements in order for licensed agents to sell the following products:

Annuity Training: All producers must complete a one-time annuity training course approved for at least 4 hours prior to selling, soliciting, or negotiating such products.

Long-Term Care: Before selling, soliciting, or negotiating LTC insurance products in Alabama, producers must complete an initial 8-hour NAIC LTC training course approved in any state.
